Ctg depot fire: Divisional probe body seeks 5 additional days
The probe committee, formed by the Chattogram Divisional Commissioner, to investigate the fire and subsequent blast at BM Container Depot in Chattogram's Sitakunda upazila, has sought five more days to investigate the incident.
The decision of the time extension came from a meeting of the probe committee—which consists of nine members—which was held at the divisional commissioner's office this evening (June 12, 2022), reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.
Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, Chattogram additional divisional commissioner (Development), told this correspondent that he applied to Divisional Commissioner Md Ashraf Uddin seeking five more working days to submit the probe report as the committee is yet to wrap up its investigation by five working days.
"We have sought five more working days to wrap up our investigation. Already five working days of the probe committee, which was the scheduled time, had expired," Mizanur Rahman told The Daily Star.
"More than 10 officials and staff members of BM container depot have testified before the committee so far. We are trying to figure out why the explosion occurred and how the chemical ended up in the depot. We will visit the BM depot again tomorrow to confirm some issues," he said.
The fire broke out at BM Container Depot in Chattogram on June 4.
Investigators have said the container depot contained at least 27 containers carrying hydrogen peroxide, which led to the deadly blast that claimed 47 lives, including 10 firefighters.
Following the incident, police filed a case accusing eight depot officials while sparing the depot's owners.
Several investigation committees are conducting their investigations to find out the reason behind the blast.
So far, 29 bodies have been handed over to family members, after confirming their identities.
