A female doctor got burnt at her house in Dhaka's Wari this noon.

Adity Sarker (38), a doctor of Pediatric Department at Mitford Hospital, was rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, sources at the hospital said.

She was being treated at intensive care unit with 50 percent burns on her body.

Her husband Manesh Mondal claimed that Adity either set herself on fire or her clothes caught fire on their flat at Hare Street around 12:15pm.

Kabir Hossain Hawlader, officer-in-charge of Wari Police Station, said they are verifying the claim and trying to get a statement from the injured.

Manesh, claiming to be an engineer, said his wife was physically ill for a long period of time and had been upset over it but Aditi did not want to take treatment properly which led to an argument between them.

"When I was at work, Adity was repeatedly me calling over the phone when I was giving an interview online … I declined her calls but she was calling me repeatedly so I picked up and responded angrily," he said.

"When I returned home at noon and was changing my clothes, I heard screams from the next room. I ran and saw her body on fire," he claimed.
