Two people were killed when a minibus hit a covered van on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in ​​Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj early today.

Eight more people were injured in the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Md Raihan,36, and Jibon sheikh,24, said Abdur Rahman, sub-inspector of Hasara Highway Police Station.

All the victims were the passengers of the bus, said police.

SI Abdur Rahman said the Mawa-bound bus of Abdullah Paribahan hit the covered van from behind in the Nimtoli area on the expressway around 12:00am.

At least 10 passengers of the bus were injured.

Doctors declared two of them -- Raihan and Jibon -- dead when they were taken to the Srinagar Upazila Health Complex, said the SI.

Police seized the covered van but its driver managed to flee the scene, said the SI.

On Friday, six people from two families, including women and children, were killed and four were seriously injured when a bus rammed into their vehicles at Dhaleshwari toll plaza on the same expressway.
