Two motorcyclists were killed in a road accident in the Hotapara area of ​​the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.

The deceased were Minhajul Kabir Masud, 40, a resident of Bauni village in Sreepur upazila, and Samrat, 38, a resident of the area adjacent to the Sreepur upazila municipality near the registry office.

Minhajul Kabir Masud is the Sreepur upazila correspondent of Ekusher Bani newspaper. The deceased Minhajul Kabir Masud and Samrat are relatives of each other, said locals.

The incident took place in the Hotapara area of the highway in Gazipur at around 4:00pm today, said Sale Uddin, officer-in-charge of the Salna Highway Police Station.

"Two motorcyclists were killed after being hit by a covered van at the Hotapara U-turn on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway," he told The Daily Star.

Local passerby Anwar Hossain told The Daily Star that a covered van hit the motorcycle while the motorcycle was taking a U-turn in the Hotapara area.

As a result, the motorcycle with the two riders fell off and were flung a long distance. They died on the spot.

"The bodies have been recovered and will be sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Salna Highway Police have detained the driver in this incident," the OC said.
