Urea fertiliser price goes up by Tk 6 per kg
The government has increased the price of urea fertiliser by Tk 6 per kg, due to the hike in prices in the international market.
The new price will be effective from today (August 1, 2022), according to a press release signed by Md Kamrul Islam Bhuiyan, senior information office of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The maximum retail price of urea fertiliser has been refixed at Tk 20 from Tk 14 per kg, the release said. Also, the price at the firm level has been refixed at Tk 22 from Tk 16 per kg.
The price of urea fertiliser in the global market is now Tk 81 per kg. As a result, the government will have to pay a subsidy of Tk 59 per kg even after the price hike of Tk 6, the release added.
In 2005-06, the subsidy for the fertiliser per kg was only Tk 15.
The release also said that there is an adequate stock of all types of fertilisers in the country against the demand. The demand for the fertiliser till the Aman season (July-September) is 6,19,000 metric tonnes. And currently 7,27,000 metric tonnes are in stock, which is around 1 lakh tonne more than the requirement.
