A nine-year-old girl was found dead in a field in Poilanpur village of Chatmohar upazila under Pabna today.

The victim is Kalpona Khatun, 9, daughter of Alal Hossain of Mothurapur village in the upazila. She was a class two student at a local school.

Md Monjurul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chatmohar Police Station, said the victim went to attend an Islami Jalsa (mehfil) at Dahpara village last night but she did not return home.

Locals however found her body at a litchi orchard in Poilanpur village this noon and informed police.

Police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy this morning.

The victim might be strangled to death on the spot, the OC said.

The reason behind the murder is not clear, he said, adding that a case was filed with the incident accusing unidentified people, the OC said.

Police are investigating the incident and trying to nab the culprits, the OC added.
