BGB stands with Swarna’s family on Pahela Baishakh

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today extended a hand to the grieving family of Swarna Das on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh as they spend their first Bangla New Year without her.
Earlier on September 3 last year, the 14-year-old girl, of Juri upazila, was gunned down allegedly by the members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Kaluara upazila of Moulvibazar.
Swarna was a student of class eight of Nirod Bihari High School in Juri upazila.
Members of the 52 BGB Battalion in Beanibazar gifted the family a high-yielding breed of Fijian cow from the BGB's own farm. Alongside this, BGB personnel spent time with the family during the New Year celebrations, offering comfort and solidarity.
Representatives from the Youth Journalist Community also joined the initiative, providing cash support and expressing sympathy to the bereaved family.
"We are devastated by the loss of our daughter. BGB has stood by us from the beginning. We are grateful to the BGB director general and the entire battalion for this generous gift," said Swarna's father, Porendra Das.
Lt Col Md Mehedi Hasan, commanding officer of the 52 BGB Battalion, said, "Swarna's death is a deeply tragic incident. We have supported the family from day one and will continue to do so. Standing beside them on this difficult day is our moral responsibility."
Present at the event were BGB's media consultant Saif Ibne Rafiq; senior journalists Saleh Biplob and Mohsin Ul Hakim; Youth Journalist Community President Ahsan Kamrul, General Secretary Sajib Khan, Office Secretary Omar Faruq, among others.
