Eden College BCL vice-president sues 8 including its president, secretary
Eight leaders and activists of Eden Mohila College's Chhatra League unit, including its president and general secretary, were sued today on charge of making an attempt to kill its vice-president on September 24.
The accused are president Tamanna Jasmine Riva, general secretary Razia Sultana and Nujhat Faria Roksana, Mim Islam, Nur Jahan, Ritu Akhter, Anika Tabassum Sworna and Kamrunnahar Jyoti.
Jannatul Ferdowsi, vice-president of BCL unit, filed the case against them with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mostafa Reza Nur.
After the hearing, the magistrate recorded the statement of the complainant, took cognisance of the charges and directed the officer-in-charge of Lalbagh Police Station to submit a report by October 24 after an investigation into the matter.
In her complaint, Jannatul alleged that around 10:00pm on September 24, Swarna with three to four other unidentified persons carrying "homemade arms" entered her room and conducted a search after being instructed by Riva and Razia.
They did not find Jannatul in her room but they allegedly damaged her furniture and took Tk 20,000 in cash from her wardrobe and a laptop worth Tk 34,000. They also threatened others with death, said the complainant.
Jannatul was returning to her room after hearing the news, when Riva, Razia and six others allegedly chased her. Riva also allegedly attacked her with hockey sticks in front of Ayesha Hall and Razia and others tried to kill her choking her with a scarf. She then fell down after which the accused left the scene, Jannatul alleged.
They also allegedly took her chain and mobile phone worth Tk 55,000.
After the incident, the teachers rescued her and shifted her to the hospital for treatment. After taking treatment, she went to Lalbagh Police Station to file a case against them. But police did not register it and asked her to go to the court in this connection, Jannatul alleged.
