Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed, yesterday said unless the judiciary is fully reformed, the sustainability of reforms in other sectors cannot be ensured.

He made these remarks as the keynote speaker at the 7th AK Khan Memorial Law Lecture, jointly organised by the Faculty of Law at the Chittagong University and the AK Khan Foundation at AK Khan Auditorium of CU's law department.

"A multidimensional reform process is underway in the country. However, unless the judiciary undergoes a comprehensive reform, the sustainability of other reform initiatives cannot be ensured," he said.

One of the main challenges for future generations is to maintain a balanced harmony between constitutionalism and democracy in order to ensure justice, the chief justice added.

CU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Yahya Akhter also spoke among others. Professor Dr M Zafar Ullah Talukder, dean of CU's law faculty, presided over the event.
