Raped, tortured for 3 months, girl dies in Mymensingh
An eighth grader who was allegedly abducted, raped, and tortured for over three months, has succumbed to her injuries at her village home in Mymensingh's Nandail upazila.
The girl was a student at Bakchanda Fazil Madrasa in Nandail.
According to the girl's family, Hossain, 19, of the adjacent Kuchuri village used to tease the girl. As the girl refused his advances, he, also a tenth grader at a local madrasa, and his unidentified accomplices abducted the girl on June 1.
Over the next three months, Hossain repeatedly raped and tortured her keeping her at an unknown place, they added. She was tortured to the extent that her right eye was severely damaged.
On September 6, the girl, belonging to a poor family, was left adjacent to her house in a critical state.
The girl was first taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for treatment. Later, she was referred to an eye hospital in Dhaka where the doctors removed the affected eye for the safety of the other.
She was later sent home where she died Tuesday.
In October, the victim's father, Abu Kalam, filed a case with a Mymensingh court which directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to probe the incident, said Md Abul Hashem, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Nandail Police Station.
Contacted, Md Rakibul Akter, superintendent of police of PBI, said after getting the court order, the PBI started an investigation into the case and they have already collected all the necessary information.
None has been arrested regarding the incident yet, said police.
Ranu Akter, the victim's mother, demanded the arrest of the accused.
Police have recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
