Singer Noble arrested over rape, torture

Police yesterday arrested singer Mainul Ahsan Noble from Dhaka's Demra area on charges of raping a college student after abducting her seven months ago.

A police team arrested him from the Sarulia area around 2:00am after the victim filed a case against him on charges of rape, torture, and pornography, said Mahmudur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Demra Police Station.

Later yesterday noon, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zia Uddin ordered to send Noble to jail after Demra police produced him before the court seeking his confinement in jail.

The court rejected a petition seeking Noble's bail.

The victim alleged that Noble and his associates had abducted her seven months ago and confined her at his house. Noble raped her on several occasions, the OC said, quoting her.

Earlier, the police team rescued the woman on Monday night following a phone call to 999. Noble fled from his home that time but was arrested eventually hours later, police said.
