DSCC aims to clear rainwater in 15 minutes this monsoon: Mayor Taposh
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today said that authorities aim to drain rainwater from the DSCC area within 15 minutes during the upcoming rainy season.
The DSCC mayor made the comment while observing cleaning of drains in the Ranking Street area of Wari.
"We successfully cleared rain water within one hour two years back. Last year it took half an hour. This year our new target is 15 minutes," said the DSCC mayor.
Taposh also said DSCC authorities have been cleaning drains, culverts and canals as part of their yearly plan since getting charge of the drainage system from Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority around two years back. The rain water recedes easily due to their regular cleaning works.
Stressing the need for awareness of city people, the mayor said the drains get filled up due to waste-dumping despite being cleaned every year.
"We not only get household garbage in the drains but also sewage," he added.
He said during cyclone Sitrang last year DSCC residents witnessed waterlogging only in nine places while authorities managed to drain rainwater successfully within only half an hour.
