JU VC seeks guidance on JUCSU election from CA
Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan today sought advice from Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus regarding the upcoming Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) election during a meeting.
The meeting took place at the state guest house Jamuna.
During the meeting, the VC briefed the chief adviser on the progress of academic and student affairs under his leadership and unveiled the roadmap for the long-anticipated JUCSU election.
The election schedule is set to be announced on February 1, 2025, with the draft voter list already published on January 10.
The JUCSU election has been held only nine times since the university's inception in 1971 and the platform has been inactive for nearly 33 years, said the VC.
The VC also discussed his efforts to enhance the university's research budget and reduce first-year admission form fees since taking office.
He informed the chief adviser about the university's response to the July mass uprising, including the allocation of Tk 37 lakh for the treatment of injured students and teachers.
In response, Yunus commended the university's students and teachers for their role during the uprising and expressed satisfaction with the university's academic progress.
He encouraged the university to proceed with the JUCSU election as planned, saying, "If you can do it, then do it. You can take the leadership role in this regard."
The meeting was attended by Pro-Vice-Chancellors Professor Mahfuzur Rahman and Professor Sohel Ahmed, as well as Treasurer Professor Abdur Rab.
