The Anti-Corruption Commission Reform Commission today presented a report to the Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus with 47 recommendations, including recognising the Anti-Corruption Commission as a constitutional institution instead of a statutory one.

"The ACC is currently a statutory institution, but it needs to be recognised as a constitutional entity. We want the ACC to be independent and effective. However, this independence must have limits. We have developed a comprehensive set of reform recommendations," said Iftekharuzzaman, head of the ACC Reform Commission, while submitting the report around 11:30am.

He also mentioned recommending an increase in the number of commission members from three to five, with compulsory female participation. The incorporation of individuals with judicial and financial expertise was also among the recommendations.

"To make the ACC more dynamic, we have proposed 47 recommendations categorised into short-term, medium-term, and long-term measures. We believe that implementing the short-term recommendations will take six months, the medium-term will require 18 months, and the long-term reforms will take 48 months to fully realise," added Iftekharuzzaman.
