Eid meal budget for law enforcement

In a move aimed at ensuring the smooth celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Ministry of Home Affairs has authorised a substantial financial allocation of around Tk 2.03 crore to provide high-quality meals for law enforcement personnel working across the country during the festive period.

This initiative is expected to cover officers from the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar & VDP, and the Bangladesh Coast Guard, who will be stationed at key security posts, checkpoints, and on patrol duties throughout the country, according to a home ministry letter.

The official letter issued today, titled "Authorisation of Funds for Providing Quality Meals to Police, BGB, Ansar & VDP, and Bangladesh Coast Guard Personnel on Duty for Law and Order Maintenance on Eid-ul-Fitr Day," was sent to the chief accounts and finance officer of the home ministry. It outlines the allocation for these personnel, who will be stationed in Dhaka and other key areas to maintain law and order during the Eid celebrations.

According to the letter, the Bangladesh Police will receive Tk 1 crore, BGB Tk 40 lakh, Ansar & VDP Tk 60 lakh, and the Bangladesh Coast Guard Tk 30 lakh from the allocated funds.

Jahangir Alam, deputy secretary of the public security division of the home ministry, signed the letter. The allocated funds, part of the ministry's budget for 2024-2025, are intended to cover the required expenses for the meals of the officers on duty.

However, the letter also mentioned certain conditions.

The allocated funds must be strictly adhered to, with no overspending allowed. All financial transactions must be made in accordance with standard financial guidelines, and detailed accounts must be kept for auditing purposes. Unspent funds must be returned by June 30, 2025.

The Ministry has also emphasised the importance of maintaining accountability and transparency in the use of these funds, with detailed reports to be submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs for review, according to the letter.

Ministry officials said that this initiative reflects the government's recognition of the crucial role that law enforcement agencies play in maintaining peace and security during the Eid festivities, allowing citizens to celebrate with peace of mind.
