Faiz Ahmad removes FB post on CA’s resignation claim, issues disclaimer

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, special assistant to the chief adviser overseeing the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology (with the status of state minister), has deleted a Facebook post claiming that the chief adviser would not resign, replacing it later with a disclaimer.

Earlier on Friday afternoon, Faiz posted, "The chief adviser will not resign. Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus does not need power, but for Bangladesh—for Bangladesh's peaceful democratic transition—Dr Yunus is necessary. Instead, the cabinet must become more dynamic, the government must be more functional, advisers must work harder, and visible progress must be presented to the public—there can be no disagreement on this. We must show that following the mass uprising, professor [Yunus] has demonstrated success with public approval. The global community respects Dr Muhammad Yunus, and it is our responsibility to safeguard that recognition."

He further emphasised the need for political engagement, saying, "I believe the government must now engage in more frequent and in-depth discussions with political parties, regularly sitting down and seeking their opinions on various matters. Isolation is undesirable. At the same time, the military must not interfere in politics. In today's world, no civilised nation's military is politically involved. Therefore, in his statement about elections in December, the army chief failed to maintain jurisdictional correctness. However, the military must be shown due respect and kept assured. No rash decisions should be made regarding the army—nothing impulsive. Likewise, inclusivity should not be misused as a pretext to rehabilitate the Awami League. The Bangladesh Army is a source of pride and trust for us, and no one should undermine that."

On elections, he expressed optimism that all necessary preparations would be completed for polls in April or May, emphasising the need for essential reforms, including the July Charter.

Faiz Ahmad also commented on upcoming national commemorations, stating that July-August 2025 would mark the first anniversary of the July uprising, which, he said, would be celebrated nationwide.

He further hoped that the first verdict in the trial of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina would be delivered by August.

Later in the evening, Faiz Ahmad deleted his original post and issued a disclaimer.

"Disclaimer: My previous statement regarding the honorable chief adviser reflects my personal opinion. Please refrain from reporting it as news. Thank you," he wrote.
