Fawzia Samad’s death anniv

Today is the 14th death anniversary of Begum Fawzia Samad, wife of the late MA Samad, founder of Bangladesh General Insurance Company PLC, said a press release.
Fawzia Samad was the founder and editor of "Minar", a Bangla children's magazine published in 1949. She bravely opened her Dhanmondi home in April 1971 to receive the first cache of arms and to shelter freedom fighters during the Liberation War.
As the longest-serving president of the Dhaka Ladies Club (1973–2011), she established several humanitarian initiatives, including free community schools like "Kushumkoli". Born in Sylhet in 1929, she passed away on April 25, 2011, at a hospital in Singapore. She is survived by her children -- Towhid Samad, chairman of BGIC, Fancy Samad, Tamju Samad, and Sabrina Samad.
