Govt doesn’t endorse Fazlur Rahman’s remarks: foreign ministry

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified that the recent remarks made by Maj Gen (retd) ALM Fazlur Rahman on his personal social media account were expressed solely in a personal capacity and do not reflect the position or policies of the Bangladesh government.
"Bangladesh remains firmly committed to the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence of all nations," the ministry said in a statement yesterday.
The statement came following social media comments by Fazlur Rahman, who is heading the commission to re-investigate the 2009 Pilkhana massacre.
In its statement, the foreign ministry reiterated that Fazlur Rahman's comments do not represent the government's position or policies, and that the government neither endorses nor shares such rhetoric in any form or manner.
The ministry also urged all concerned to refrain from associating the Bangladesh government with the personal comments made by Fazlur Rahman.
Earlier, on April 30, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam also said that the interim government does not share the views of Fazlur Rahman in any shape or form and does not endorse such rhetoric.
"Bangladesh respects the sovereignty and independence of all nations and expects the same from others.
"We urge all not to drag the government of Bangladesh in reference to Major Gen Fazlur Rahman's personal comments," he added.
