A total of 1,214 ghost and politically motivated cases filed during the past 15 years of Awami League will be withdrawn within a week, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul said today.

Addressing a press conference at his office at the secretariat, the adviser said of the 1,214 cases, gazettes centring withdrawing 53 cases will be published within a day or two.

Asif Nazrul said the interim government has prepared a list of 16,429 ghost and politically motivated cases for withdrawal.

The law adviser also informed that except for three, all the 396 cases filed under the Cyber Security Act under speech offences will be withdrawn by February. Moreover, the High Court earlier stayed the activities of the three cases.

"At least 332 cases have already been withdrawn. Final decisions were taken to withdraw 61 cases [under the Cyber Security Act under speech offences] within three to four working days," he said.
