Law on the cards over dope test for university admission
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today said that a law is being formulated to conduct dope tests before enrolling students at universities to prevent drug abuse.
"For universities, a law is being formulated… Medical tests will be done at the time of admission, during which dope tests will also be carried out," he said in reply to a query at a programme at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
He, however, did not say how long it might take to formulate the law and introduce dope tests in university admission process.
The home minister further said they would introduce dope tests in law enforcement agencies, as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stresses on zero tolerance towards drugs.
"We had sent a proposal to the Prime Minister – for conducting dope tests before appointment of government officials and employees…That is being done," he said, adding that they have to develop more infrastructure and efforts are already on.
