Over 60 lakh new voters added, 20 lakh dead removed from list

More than 60 lakh new citizens have been added to the voter list during the ongoing update process of the voter list.
At the same time, over 20 lakh deceased voters have been removed from the voter list.
The number of new votes was published in a report recently prepared by the Election Commission (EC), after they consolidated the information sent from field-level EC officials.
So far, information of 6,087,739 new voters were added to the voter list. Of them, 2,859,228 are male voters, 3,227,775 are female voters, and 1,055 are Hijra voters.
The report was signed by Md Abdul Momin Sarkar, director of National Identity Registration (NID) Wing at EC.
Of the 2,087,036 dead voters, 1,203,315 were male, 886,393 were female, and 330 were Hijra. The names of the dead voters were removed from the voter list, according to the EC report.
The voter registration process will continue until April 11. During this period, those who have been left out can fill in their information online and visit a registration centre to become voters.
Earlier on January 20, the EC started the process of updating the voter list by collecting information through door-to-door visits. This work is scheduled to be completed by June 30.
