BNP's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, has extended his heartfelt gratitude to the general public and party leaders and activists for turning out in large numbers to welcome BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia on her return to the country.

He also expressed his gratitude to members of the armed forces, police, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), and aviation security (AVSEC) for their role in maintaining law and order during the occasion, according to a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Khaleda Zia returned to Dhaka on May 6, 2025, after undergoing four months of medical treatment in the United Kingdom.

Thousands of supporters thronged on the side of the roads and highways from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to her residence in Gulshan-2 to greet her as she made her way home that morning.
