Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said Bangladesh has given an apt reply to conspirators through the construction of Padma Bridge with its own resources.

"We've been able to give a befitting reply to those who tried to obstruct the construction of Padma Bridge, (showing) what Bangladesh can do," she said addressing a mammoth rally in Madaripur.

Bangladesh Awami League (AL) organised the rally at Kathalbari in Shibchar upazila, which turned into a human sea, on the occasion of the grand opening of the country's longest bridge.

Sheikh Hasina, also AL president, pledged that she is ready to make any sacrifice for the development of the country and its people.

"I'm ready to make any sacrifice to establish your rights, to change your destiny… If needed, I'll sacrifice my own life for you," she said.

The premier said she will work to ensure more improved lives for the next generations.

Noting that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had earned Bangladesh's independence, she said her government will develop Bangladesh as a prosperous "Shonar Bangla".

"I'll ensure that the children of our country will get more improved lives. It's my promise to you," she added.

All AL leaders, who spoke at the rally, urged people to vote in favour of "boat", the electoral symbol of AL – as Padma Bridge construction was completed connecting 21 Southern districts.

Since early this morning, people in thousands started thronging Kathalbari ghat of Shibchar upazila to join the grand public rally of Awami League.

After opening the biggest self-financed project, Padma Bridge, and attending several other programmes at both ends of the bridge, the premier joined AL's public rally at around 12:50 pm.
