Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked the main opposition in parliament to point out if there was any failure on her part and said she would correct herself accordingly.

The premier was replying to a question from Jatiya Party lawmaker Fakhrul Imam.

"People will judge the successes and failures, it is not my responsibility to judge that. Why would I fail if I work with honesty and specific goals for the welfare of the people?" she said.

Hasina also asked the Jatiya Party to find out her failures saying, "When you are so interested, please point outmy failures, and I will correct them."

The premier said she has worked for the welfare of the grassroots people after the formation of the government.

"People are getting the benefits now. Elderly people will know the radical changes in Bangladesh in the last 14 years," she said.

But, today's generation will not know that, she added.

In response to a question from ruling party lawmaker AKM Rahmatullah, the PM said after the killing of Bangabandhu, Ziaur Rahman seized power illegally and freed the war criminals.

By changing two clauses of the constitution, Zia allowed them to do politics.

"Many war criminals, including Ghulam Azam, were brought back from Pakistan and given citizenship. Zia made war criminals advisors and ministers."

She said Khaleda Zia also gave war criminals places in her cabinet.

"Patronising war criminals like this is disgraceful for a nation. Genuine freedom fighters who did not agree to join hands with Zia were dropped from the list of freedom fighters ... and non-freedom fighters were included in the list. They did not want to honour the real freedom fighters."

In response to a query from ruling party MP Benazir Ahmed, Hasina said the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war have affected the economy.

"Bangladesh is no exception. This has affected the prices of essentials alongside other economic and social impacts."

In reply to the supplementary question from AL MP Mozaffar Hossain, the leader of the House said Bangladesh's garment industry has expanded widely, but there are difficulties finding technical persons there.

"Many people are brought from abroad and given jobs."

In this connection, she said, the government has established textiles universities and colleges to create a skilled workforce.
