The proclamation of July uprising will be a historic document towards democratic Bangladesh, said Students Against Discrimination and Jatiya Nagorik Committee today.

After meeting with the chief adviser and political parties, in separate briefings, they said that all parties who joined the meeting have said it was necessary to prepare the proclamation.

Member secretary of Students Against Discrimination Arif Sohel said the way Bangladesh is going forward eliminating the fascist system and progressing towards a democratic transition, the July proclamation will strengthen and smoothen the journey.

"The document will have historical significance in the establishment of a prosperous and democratic state and the July movement will be recognised globally," he said.

"Further discussions will be held regarding what should be included in the document to reflect the aspirations of the students and people who took to the streets in July-August," he added.

Jatiya Nagorik Committee convener Nasiruddin Patwary said if Bangladesh wants to move forward towards a democratic transition, it cannot be done without this document.

"For this reason, we have called upon all democratic forces, and people who are committed to democracy and those who have fought for it during the last 15 years, to unite through this historic declaration," he said, adding that all who joined the meeting have agreed on this proposal.

"The journey towards democracy will continue in the future," he added.
