Eager to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with their families, homebound passengers have thronged in thousands at the Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka on the first day of Eid journey on trains.

All platforms were packed with home-goers with a large number of them waiting in queues to get standing tickets, reports our staff correspondent from the railway station.

Sitangshu Chakraborty, station master of Kamalapur Railway Station, said that they will provide maximum 30 percent standing tickets.

A total of 18 trains including two mail trains and two local trains left the station till 11:00am, he said, adding that 41 more will leave for the destinations today.

Meanwhile, departure of two inter-city trains were delayed by 40 to 55 minutes, he also said.

Approximately 70,000 to 1,00,000 passengers will leave Dhaka everyday boarding trains for destinations across the country till the Eid day.

The rush of passengers is especially high today as it is a holiday.

To make the holidaymakers’ journey hassle-free, no one is being allowed to enter the station without tickets.

Rover Scouts and Red Crescent volunteers are helping passengers with information alongside law enforcers.
