3 missing as trawler capsizes in Jamuna

At least three people including two children went missing after a trawler carrying 100 passengers capsized in the Jamuna river after it collided with a sand-laden cargo vessel this morning.

The identities of missing people could not be known immediately.

The trawler left Kazirhat area of Pabna’s Bera upazila for Aricha ghat in Manikganj district in the morning.

Around 10:00am, the trawler capsized in the river after hitting the cargo near Alokdia Char adjacent to Aricha ghat, our Manikganj correspondent reports quoting Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibalaya Police Station Habib Ullah Sarkar.

All the passengers, except the three, managed to swim ashore, the OC said.

Divers of Fire Service and Civil Defence were conducting search and rescue operations till this afternoon when the report was filed.
