‘Drug peddler’ killed in Feni ‘gunfight’
An alleged drug peddler was killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Feni Sadar upazila early today.
The deceased was identified as Md Kabir Hossain, 35, hailed from Isampur village in Shahrasti upazila of Chandpur district, our Feni correspondent reports quoting Squadron Leader Shafayat Jamil Fahim of Rab-7.
The Rab official said the “shootout” took place around 4:00am, when a Rab team raided at Lemuwa on information that some “drug peddlers” were holding a meeting there.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the gang opened fire forcing them to retaliate that triggered the “gunfight”, the Rab official said.
After the “gunfight”, the bullet-hit body of Kabir was recovered from the spot which was later sent to Feni Sadar Hospital for autopsy, he added.
Rab claimed to have recovered a pistol, and 1.80 lakh pieces of yaba from the spot.
