Drug peddler killed in Pabna gunfight: Police
A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Santhia upazila of Pabna earlier today.
Deceased Abdul Alim alias Kalu (35), was an accused in several drug cases and a listed drug peddler, according to police.
He was the son of Khorshed Ali of Rasulpur village in Santhia upazila of the district.
Goutam Kumar Bishwas, additional superintendent of Pabna police, said a team of Santhia Police Station conducted a drive in Khoyarbagan area around 2:00am after receiving information that some drug peddlers took shelter there.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the drug peddlers opened fire on the police team, prompting them back fire in self-defense.
At one stage, Kalu was caught in the line of fire and received bullet injuries while the other criminals fled from the scene, the additional SP said.
Kalu was taken to Pabna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, said the police official.
Police recovered a shutter gun, two round bullets, a machete and 100 pieces yaba pills from his possession.
Two policemen including a sub-inspector were injured during the clash and were admitted to Santhia upazila health complex, the additional SP added.
