Appointment of NSTU VC legal: HC
The High Court (HC) yesterday declared the appointment of Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) Vice Chancellor Prof M Wahiduzzaman legal by rejecting a writ petition challenging the legality of the appointment.
The writ petition filed by Dr Md Anwarul Bashar, an assistant professor of NSTU, was rejected by the bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali on grounds that the petitioner does not have locus standi or sufficient interest in the matter in question, Advocate Sheikh Ali Ahmed Khokon, a lawyer for Wahiduzzaman, said.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the government; Advocate Ahsanul Karim and Advocate Amena Anwar appeared for Wahiduzzaman while Advocate Dr Shahdeen Malik argued for Anwarul Bashar.
Dr Md Anwarul Bashar submitted the writ petition to the HC in June last year saying that Dr M Wahiduzzaman was appointed to the post of VC although he has no degree on science and technology.
Under the rules of Noakhali Science and Technology University Act, 2001, the VC of the university must have a degree on science and technology, he added in the petition.
