Road accidents kill four
At least four persons were killed in separate road accidents across four districts yesterday.
In Sylhet, eight-year-old Nilima Akther died on the spot after a speeding bus run over her in Digambar area of Bahubal upazila on Dhaka-Sylhet highway, reports our correspondent.
The student of first grade at Kalibari Govt Primary School died while she was trying to cross the road, Md Jashim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sayestaganj Highway Police Station said.
After the incident agitated locals blocked the highway for an hour which was later controlled by highway police.
In Joypurhat, Refat Hossain, 5, was killed when a CNG-run three-wheeler hit him while crossing a road in Kalai upazila.
In Dinajpur, Sirajul Islam, 55, was killed when the pick-up van he was riding on hit a truck on Phulbari-Rangpur highway in Phulbari upazila. Abul Alim, driver of the pick-up van, was also injured.
In another incident in Dinajpur, four persons were injured when two vehicles collided head-on at Satmail on Dinajpur-Rangpur highway. Locals rescued and rushed them to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile in Chittagong, bus driver Mohammad Mia, 34, was killed and five passengers injured when a Chittagong-bound truck lost control and hit the vehicle in Madambibir Hat area in Sitakunda upazila yesterday, police said.
On information police rushed to the spot and rescued the six people and sent them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared the driver dead.
