Law Minister holds talks with UN HR commissioner
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Abdul Matin Khasru held talks with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and former Irish President Mary Robinson in Japanese capital Tokyo on Monday, reports UNB.
During the meeting, the Law Minister briefed her on the serious and genuine commitment of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the government to institutionalise democracy and promote human rights.
In this context, Matin apprised Robinson on the various measures taken by the government, particularly on setting up of Law Commission, Grameen Court to ensure speedy and inexpensive access to justice and decision to establish independent Bangladesh National Commission on Human Rights for securing protection and promotion of human rights.
Robinson appreciated various policies and measures taken by the Bangladesh government and expressed her support and that of the UN High Commission for Human Rights for implementation of these measures.
The Law Minister also exchanged views on bilateral and other issues with the Japanese Foreign Minister and Minister for Justice.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan S M Rashed Ahmed was present during the meeting.
