President, PM greet their Indian counterparts

President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed yesterday felicitated his Indian counterpart K R Narayanan on the occasion of the Republic Day of India to be celebrated today, reports BSS.

"On the auspicious occasion of the Republic Day of India, it is with great pleasure that I convey to you our heartiest greetings and felicitations," President Shahabuddin said in a message to the Indian President.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday congratulated her Indian counterpart Inder Kumar Gujral on the occasion of the Republic Day of India.

"On behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh and on my own behalf I convey our warmest greetings of the auspicious occasion of the Republic Day of India to you and through you to the friendly people of India," she said in a message sent to Gujral.

She added: "I am confident that the bonds of friendship and the excellent relations between our two neighbouring countries will continue to be strengthened to the mutual benefit of the people of our two countries."
