1.78 lakh Yaba tablets seized in Savar, 1 held
Rapid Action Battalion seized 1.78 lakh Yaba tablets from a truck and arrested its driver for possessing those in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, last night.
A truck was also seized during the drive conducted on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar around 11:30pm, Major Maksudul Alam, deputy director of Rab media said while addressing a press briefing at Rab-4 headquarter in Mohammadpur today.
Acting on a tip-off, the elite forcer intercepted a Rajshahi-bound truck from Cox’s Bazar in front of the gate of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre and carried out a search, he said.
The Rab members recovered around 981 plastic bags carrying the Yaba tablets, which were kept under the driving seat of the truck, the Rab official said.
The market value of the seized Yaba tablets is estimated at Tk 5.34 crore, he added.
The detainee, Isha Khan, 32, a resident of Chapainawabganj, is a member of an organised drug-smuggling syndicate, the Rab official said.
During the primary interrogation, Isha Khan said a drug trader of Cox’s Bazar gave the Yaba tablets to him to hand over those to a person at Shaheb Bazar in Rajshahi, the Rab official said.
