Indian nurse cuts off 8-day-old child’s finger
A hospital nurse is said to have cut off a finger of newborn child in a government hospital of Dinajpur South in West Bengal of India.
The incident took place last night in Balurghat Government Hospital, reports our Kolkata correspondent. Allegedly, she tried to dispose the severed finger of the eight-day-old child in a dustbin to avoid notice.
According to sources, a resident of Balurghat Dasu area had taken admission in the hospital with postnatal complexity and an eight-day-old newborn child.
A nurse of the maternity ward was attending to her last night. She was bandaging the patient when she ran her scissors through the newborn – instantly severing a finger.
The nurse allegedly wrapped the finger in tissue paper and disposed it into a dustbin quickly – but not before the father of the victim caught her in the act.
Hospital Superintendent Tapan Biswas said this morning that the allegations are under investigation and actions will be taken accordingly after report.
The child was referred to North Bengal Medical College for better treatment in full conveyance covered by Balurghat Government Hospital, he told reporters.
