Bangladesh on course to end child marriage
Five key countries with high child marriage rates, including Bangladesh, have begun the legal process of ending child marriage for the first time, said British International Development Secretary Justine Greening at The Girl Summit.
Celebrating one-year journey towards stopping child marriage and female genital mutilation on July 22, the summit was also participated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
More than half of women in Bangladesh currently aged between 20 and 24 were married off before their 18th birthday but the good news is that the rate of child marriage is on a downward trend, said Greening, adding that Britain is going to keep fighting the battle of establishing females' rights with the help of other countries, like Bangladesh, and campaigners.
