Sohag, Zakir new BCL president, secretary

Saifur Rahman Sohag and Zakir Hossain have been elected president and general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of the ruling Awami League.

Sohag bagged 2,690 votes while Zakir got 2,675 votes out of the total 2,819 votes casted in today’s election held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Forty candidates – 12 for the post of president and 28 for the general secretary’s position -- took part in the polls.

There were 3,138 voters from the BCL’s 110 district-level units including nine units from abroad to elect the central leadership for the next two years.

Of them, 2,819 cast their votes.  

On Saturday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also president of the AL, inaugurated the 28th National Convention at the Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
