Miscreants set fire to the village home of Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar early today.
Police picked up Abu Taleb, 42, secretary of Jamaat-backed Kamalganj Upazila Sramik Kallyan Federation, around 4:40pm in this connection, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.
Nihar Ranjan Nath, officer-in-charge of Kamalganj Police Station confirmed the detention.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division, including Justice SK Sinha on September 17 awarded death penalty to Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah for wartime offences.
None was hurt in the arson attack that took place at Ranirbazar village around 5:30am, the police official said.
Nine unknown miscreants on three motorcycles went to Justice Sinha’s house and set fire on veranda pouring patrol, said OC Ranjan quoting locals.
The fire could burn only two wooden chairs as locals, who came out of their houses for Fazr prayer, rushed to the spot and doused the fire immediately, the OC said.
The family members of Justice Sinha were inside the house when the miscreant set the house on fire.
Ziaur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Kamalganj Police Station filed a case.
