Ahmed Nawaz's “Khero Khata” opens in port city

A solo art exhibition titled “Khero Khata” featuring the artworks of eminent artist Ahmed Nawaz opened at the auditorium of District Shilpakala Academy on Friday. 

Noted artist Rafiqun Nabi inaugurated the exhibition  on the occasion of the 58th birth anniversary of Nawaz. 

Lighting candles to the tune of Rabindra Sangeet “Aguner Poroshmoni” performed by the artistes of Sangeet Bhaban, the exhibition was inaugurated in presence of imminent personalities.

Chaired by Ekushey Padak laureate artist Prof Mansur Ul Karim, a brief inaugural programme was also held earlier followed by presentation of Tagore songs by reputed Tagore exponent Adity Mohsin.

At the inaugural programme, Rafiqun Nabi said narrating stories of life is the hallmark of artist Ahmed Nawaz. “The exhibition will help us recall different historical incidents, and make visitors realise the  circumstances in which the artist grew up”, he said.

Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin and Chittagong Development Authority Chairman Abdus Salam were present at the programme, among others.

Fifty eight artworks -- most of them sketches in pen and ink -- are on display.  Many of the paintings are depictions of the struggles of the struggle of the Liberation War and the people's expectation of speedy execution of war criminals. The slogans used in the Liberation War are used as  backgrounds in a few artworks.

The exhibition will continue till August 3 at the District Shilpakala Academy. Later, the exhibition will continue at Haatkhola auditorium at Surson Road from August 5-8. At both venues, the display will remain open to the public from 3pm-8pm.
