Mominul, Soumya hit form
In the highest scoring match of the day, Victoria Sporting Club piled up 270 for 3 on the back of Mominul Haque’s maiden ton in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League and opener Abdul Mazid’s 94 after Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club captain Farhad Reza elected to field first at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah today.
The 2nd and 3rd wicket partnerships permitted Victoria to reach the total. Mominul made a majestic 104 at a run-a-ball, and entertained the scant crowd at Fatullah with 12 fours and two sixes. Abdul Mazid followed his 69 against Victoria and 55 against Mohammedan with another substantial innings, but was unlucky to miss out on a century when he was bowled by Al-Amin Hossain for 94. Al-Amin provided the fireworks late in the innings for Victoria with his unbeaten 51 from 46 balls.
Al-Amin Hossain was the stand-out bowler for his side Prime Doleshwar. Under the scorching sun, the right arm pacer bowled his heart out to grab his second best figures in DPL 2016. He took three wickets for 57 runs in 10 overs.
In reply, Prime Doleshwar were bundled out for just 211 43.4 overs. Victoria’s Sri Lankan slow left-armer Chaturanga De Silva was the key wicket-taker with figures of 5 for 36.
Half centuries from opener and skipper Tamim Iqbal, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mosaddek Hossain pushed Abahani Limited to 255 for 6 after Legends of Rupganj captain Mosharraf Hossain won the toss and decided to field first at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
Tamim made his good form count after 63 against Victoria and 90 against Sheikh Jamal with a positive knock of 54 from 64. He smacked seven fours and a huge six during his stay at the wicket. The fourth wicket stand of 125 in 22 overs helped Abahani reach a competitive score. Nazmul top-scored with 72 from 82 balls and his highest score in this ongoing DPL contained six fours and a six. Mosaddek contributed handsomely to his team’s cause with 67 runs late in the innings.
Legends of Rupganj captain used seven bowlers to contain Abahani, and Abu Hider Rony was the most effective among his teammates today. He took three wickets for 48 runs in seven overs, and will be rather pleased to be among the wickets after his five-for against Victoria on April 24, 2016.
In reply, Legends of Rupganj, rode on half-centuries from Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Mithun to help their side guide to a 21-run victory courtesy of Duckworth-Lewis. While Soumya smashed an 89-ball 84, Mithun hit 75 off 75.
At BKSP No. 3 ground, Brothers Union managed to book Prime Bank Cricket Club for 249 with a disciplined bowling performance after Prime Bank opted to bat first. Prime Bank had a solid start, but lost wickets in regular intervals until their fifth wicket stand of 60 brought them back into the game. 62 handy runs came for the 8th wicket that allowed Prime Bank to post a decent total.
Shehan Jayasuriya top-scored for Prime Bank with 63 runs. He faced 71 balls and struck five fours and a six in his innings. Nurul Hasan’s cameo of 34 in the end and Shahaj Ahmed’s 42 were the other notable contributions in Prime Bank’s 249.
Brothers Union bowlers stuck to the task and never allowed Prime Bank batters to get away. Nur Alam was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 25 in seven overs. Tushar Imran and Sadiqur Rahman grabbed two wickets each.
In reply, Brothers Union won by seven runs, courtesy of Duckworth-Lewis, in a close finish. Brothers rode on Shahriar Nafees’s unbeaten 84. The former national opener hit eight fours and a six.
