Zainul's death anniversary observed in M'singh
A painting competition for children was held at the hall room of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Sangrahashala (art gallery) marking the 40th death anniversary of the master painter, on May 20. Marking the anniversary, the art gallery organised two-day programmes that included a discussion.
Over 107 children from different educational institutions took part in the competition in four groups. Of the participants, 12 were selected for prizes. The judges of the competition were Mohammad Abdur Rouf, principal of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Fine Arts Institute; and Badal Chakraborty, a trainer of Zainul Shishu Charupath.
Earlier, Nihar Ranjan Roy, principal of Alamgir Monsur Memorial College inaugurated the competition as chief guest. Deputy keeper of the art gallery Dr. Bijoy Krishna Banik delivered the welcome speech.
At the inaugural session, the speakers said that the younger generation would benefit greatly through a promotion of the ideology and art works of the maestro. Shilpacharya, the pioneer of modern art in this part of the globe, placed Bangladesh arts on the world map, they added.
Born in Mymensingh in 1914, Zainul Abedin grew up in a serene landscape by the river Brahmaputra, a constant inspiration to the artist.
