Mohammedan ride on Mushfiqur

Mohammedan Sporting Club defeated Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by six wickets at Mirpur today to move to the summit of the ongoing Dhaka Premier League’s points table.

Mohammedan skipper Mushfiqur Rahim opted to field first, and his bowlers had Sheikh Jamal struggling at 4-77 inside 21 overs. The lower order batters of Sheikh Jamal contributed with timely 20s to push their total to 187 for 8 in 42 overs after the match was delayed due to wet pitch.

Bipul Sharma, Mohammedan’s Indian recruit was the wrecker in chief for his side, and picked up his best figures of DPL 2016 with 4-24 from nine overs. Nazmul, Habibur, Subashis and Naeem took a wicket each to stall Sheikh Jamal.

Chasing the below-par total, Mohammedan skipper Mushy took his team to victory with his unbeaten 66 from 87 balls. His third half-century of DPL 2016 contained seven fours and two sixes. Naeem Islam made 51 from 52 to keep Sheikh Jamal bowlers at bay.

Bipul Sharma was adjudged the player of the match for his four-for and a quick-fire 34 late in the innings.

Sheikh Jamal were already out of contention for the next round. They have won 5 out of 11 matches, and find themselves in the ninth spot of the points table.
