Dhaka visit was important: Biswal

Special US envoy Nisha Desai Biswal, who came to Bangladesh on a three-day official visit to discuss security issues following the July 1 attack, said her Dhaka tour was “important”.

Commenting on her visit, Biswal tweeted that she discussed “specifics” on how the US proposes to support Bangladeshi law enforcing agencies in response to terrorism.



“Concluding an important visit to Bangladesh. I conveyed support and solidarity of United States to stand with Bangladesh in combating terrorism,” she said in a tweet message.

This morning, Biswal held a breakfast meeting with a selected group of editors of newspapers and television channels at the residence of US Ambassador to Dhaka Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat.

Following the July 1 terrorist attack at a Gulshan cafe, Biswal arrived in Bangladesh on Saturday to discuss "shared concerns" and offered US support to tackle terrorism and extremism.

During her stay, she met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and two advisers of the premier.

She also met with the diplomatic community in Bangladesh who “are concerned but committed to stand with Bangladesh.”

Biswal departed for Colombo, Sri Lanka at 12:05pm.
