Narail court issues arrest warrant for Khaleda
A Narail court yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a case filed for her remarks on the number of martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War.
The court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Jahidul Azad issued the warrant as Khaleda did not appear before it despite summons.
On July 25, the court summoned Khaleda to appear before it yesterday.
Rayhan Faruki, an imam of Chapail village in Naragati upazila, filed the case with the court on December 24, last year.
On February 2 this year, the court ordered a judicial investigation into the incident.
Addressing a discussion in Dhaka on December 21 last year, Khaleda said there was a “controversy” over the actual number of martyrs during the war, according to the case statements.
Indicating Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she also said he did not “want” the Independence of Bangladesh. Rather, he wanted to be the Prime Minister of Pakistan, it added.
A huge criticism followed her comments.
