2 Bangladeshis shot dead by 'BSF'

Two Bangladeshi nationals were gunned down allegedly by the members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Kurigram and Jhenidah districts early today.

In Jhenidah, Jashim Mandal, 32, was shot dead by BSF troops along Baghadanga bordering area in Maheshpur upazila around 4:00am.

Idris Ali, Nayek Subedar of BGB Maheshpur camp, said BSF members of Ramnagar camp opened fire when Jashim along with some other people went to Hazrar Khal area for bringing cattle, leaving him dead on the spot.

The BSF men dragged the body into the Indian territory while the others managed to flee, Idris said.

In Kurigram, another Bangladeshi youth was shot dead by BSF troops along Goytarpar frontier in Roumari upazila around 5:00am.

The deceased was identified as Dukhu Mia, 28, son of Abdul Hye of Fakirpara village in the upazila.

BSF troops opened fire when Dukhu and some other local people went near the main pillar no. 1068 on Goytarpar border, said Lt Col Rafiqul Islam, commanding officer of Jamalpur BGB-35 Battalion.

Dukhu Mia died on the spot, he said.

A letter has been sent to the BSF authorities protesting the incident, the BGB official added.
