Two influential staff of Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital were involved in misappropriating Tk 15 lakh from the government fund, according the inquiry carried out by a departmental probe committee.

A three-member inquiry committee submitted its probe report to the Director General (DG) of Health through the civil surgeon in Lalmonirhat on Tuesday.

According to the investigation, two staff of the hospital--office assistant Mahbub Alam and lab in-charge Saiful Islam--misappropriated Tk 14,99,656 collected from outdoor patients, X-ray, pathological tests and the fund meant for using hospital logistics in the 2014-15 fiscal year.

In March this year, a five-member audit team indicted the two employees of the hospital for embezzling the money instead of depositing it to the government fund and submitted its report to the Director General (DG) of Civil Audit Department.

On September 3, a three-member departmental inquiry committee was formed to investigate the allegation. The committee submitted its report on Tuesday afternoon.

When asked about the allegation brought against them, Mahbub Alam and Saiful Islam denied making any comments over the issue.
