Weeklong folk festival ends at Hasli village

A seven-day folk festival ended at Hasli village in Manikganj on October 5.

The festival included Jari Gaan, Sari Gaan, Bichar Gaan, traditional play and an anti-militancy discussion.

Baul singers Ajgar Ali, Mousumi Sarker, Jalal Sarker, Shilpi Sarker, Anwar Sarker, Sonia Sarker, Ishak Sarker, Dolon Sarker, Jibon Sarker and Parul Sarker performed songs at the festival.

Locals arrange the festival every year in honour of eminent folk singer Saidur Rahman Boyati of Hasli village of Manikganj Sadar upazila. Boyati is a recipient of National Film Award, Shilpakala Padak (2013), Natyakala Padak and is a Bangla Academy fellow.

 “The festival draws people from all walks of life. It becomes a rural fair, complete with stalls and Nagor Dola,” said Abul Bashar Abbasi, son of Saidur Rahman Boyati.
