Shishir Bhattacharya inspires young minds
A two-day art workshop for schoolchildren concluded at Barnamoy Kush Niketan (BKN) premises in Thakurgaon town this weekend.
On the concluding day, Shishir Bhattacharya, renowned cartoonist and Professor at Painting Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, DU attended the event as chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Abdul Awal as guest of honour.
Additional Deputy Commissioner AFM Fazle Rabbi was the special guest at the event presided over by Kishore Roy, chairman of the school's managing committee.
The renowned cartoonist conducted an over hour long interactive session through drawing and storytelling.
Over a hundred students from different schools in the town attended the workshop.
Mithila, a student of Class-VIII of Thakurgaon Government Girls' High School, said: “I was interested in art from my childhood. Getting tips from the renowned artist will play an important role in furthering my interest.”
Tasphia, another young girl, said she was thrilled to get some tips from the noted artiste.
Later, Shishir Bhattacharya handed over certificates to the participants.
A vibrant cultural programme was also held at the event where local artistes rendered songs.
Earlier on Friday, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Awal inaugurated the event as chief guest and exchanged views with children on drawing. Eminent educationist Professor Monotos Kumar De and Professor Khalilur Rahman were present as special guests at the event.
Chondona Ghosh, director of Barnamoy Kush Nikentan, said they arranged the event to teach children how to express themselves through art, as well as make a positive impact in their community. She expressed the hope that more such workshops will be held in future for the development of the children of the area.
