A Promise of Education for All

Agami Education Foundation (AEF) conducted its second fundraising event on October 21, 2016 at the Dhaka Residential Model College Auditorium. The chief guest was Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor, University of Asia Pacific while Bitopi Das Chowdhury, Country Head of Corporate Affairs, Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh was present as the special guest.

The fundraiser kicked off at 4 pm with the welcome address by Professor Dr. M Mosihuzzaman, President, AEF. He recalled the history of the organisation and highlighted the current projects of AEF. He also conveyed the message from Dr. Sabir Majumder, President, Agami Inc. (USA) to the audience which was followed by an elaborate presentation by Nafisa Khanam, Executive Director of AEF. It underlined a concise summary of how Agami has been supporting 18 schools which spread from the capital to the remotest village Rangamati. She accentuated the future objectives of the noble cause and requested everyone to donate funds or assist with voluntary works.

Both the chief guest and the special guest stressed the inspiring work that Agami does for underprivileged children. They drew from their own experiences how such initiatives would further the access to education among the impoverished.

The first half the programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Tazkera Khanom, the Director of Finance who acknowledged the contributions from everyone involved in AEF's activities. The second half was heart-warming with the performances by the students of two AEF supported schools, namely, Alok Shikkhaloy and Music for Development which is a project sustained by Agami and run by the acclaimed music school Shurer Dhara. The latter's performance was led by the legendary singer Rezwana Choudhury Bannya. Somewhat a thank you note to the attendees, the performances showed a glimpse of how remarkably AEF has played a role in cultural integration of the underprivileged children and what incredible impact the donors' contributions have on the lives of those children.

Agami Education Foundation is a sister organisation of Agami Inc (USA). It was founded in 2003 as a voluntary, non-profit, non-political and secular organisation by expatriate Bangladeshi individuals in the USA. Holding the main office in Dhaka, AEF has been relentlessly working to fill in the void of educational opportunities among the underprivileged children in Bangladesh. It has taken on extensive ventures with Khan Academy, Grameenphone, National Science Debate Competition and Ministry of Information and Communications Technology. Launched on March 1, 2016 Khan Academy Bangla site is the latest breakthrough to reach educational resources to the students and teachers of Bangladesh. Among other activities, AEF's Continued Education Program provides ex-Agami students with financial, academic and mentoring support to pursue higher education after graduating from Agami schools.
