Pujara breaks 52-year-old record
Putting on a partnership of 178 after India lost opener KL Rahul with two runs on the board, both Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara played with responsibility to put away any chance of Bangladesh tasting success in their first ever Test on India soil.
And even though Pujara missed out on a much-deserved century when he edged a Mehedi Hasan slider to skipper Mushfiqur Rahim while batting on 83, the Saurashtra man managed to create an unprecedented record during his knock, reports dnaindia.com
The right-hander broke Chandu Borde's record of most runs in an Indian first-class season. Pujara, who is having a stellar home season that has seen him average above 60, went past Borde's tally of 1604 runs which the legend from Maharashtra had amassed in 1964-65.
Well, this feat is a testament to Pujara's penchant for scoring big runs. Virat Kohli and Team India will only hope that the runs keep flowing from his bat.
